Mixed fortunes at F3 finale

The BRDC British Formula 3 Championship concluded at Donington Park with a strong showing from Jeremy Wahome and Omar Ismail, but the unfortunate Krishnaraaj Mahadik was forced onto the sidelines by injury.

Wahome looked set for his best result of the season in the opener when a good start propelled him into the top six. Having moved into fifth, his race came to an early end at the Fogarty esses when he spun off the circuit.

The Kenyan youngster finished his season on a high with 10th place in the final race of the year, having earlier claimed 15th in race two. The promising weekend moved him up to 21st in the final championship standings.

Returning race-winner Omar Ismail enjoyed a consistent weekend, with a pair of ninth-place finishes in the opening two races. In the third he climbed to 12th from 14th on the grid.

A torn ligament in the hand of Mahadik, suffered early during race one, ruled him out of races two and three, bringing his season to a premature close. The Indian teenager was deemed unfit by circuit doctors overnight.

Team principal Chris Dittmann said: With the speed shown it was a positive end, but obviously it’s frustrating for Krish that his season ended the way it did. He wanted to race but it’s just not possible with a torn ligament.

Jeremy had his best weekend in F3, and was just a small mistake away from a deserved top six finish. That shows how far he has come in this first year, and to end it inside the top 10 is excellent.

It was great to have Omar back with us, he hasn’t been in a car since the start of the year so to be in the mix like he was is definitely impressive. We know how quick he is, he’s a talented racer – two top 10s in F3 is a good result by anyone’s standards.
